Xiaomi reportedly rolled out Oreo 8.1 update to beta testers, stable version soon

Android Oreo 8.1 beta brings with it the June security patch. A stable version is expected to be rolled out in coming months.

After several twists and turns, Xiaomi finally released Android Oreo 8.0 update through OTA for Mi A1 smartphones (Review) on December 31 last year. Now since the phone was launched under the Android One program, it will receive two more version updates, as promised by Google and Xiaomi. As a result, Xiaomi was aggressively working on Oreo 8.1 update but did not release any timeline for the rollout. A report claims that some Beta users have already got the 8.1 update.

According to a report, several beta users received the Oreo 8.1 update with June security patch but without any treble support to the device. A stable version is expected to be rolled out in the coming months. He company had also announced that the device will also get and Android P update.

The last stable Oreo update was over 1GB (1107.4MB) and gave users new notification management settings that allow users to snooze notifications to see later, notification dots, adaptive icons, picture-in-picture for apps like Google Maps and VLC, new emojis and some tweaks under the surface to make streamline performance. The update also brings support to fast charging on the Mi A1 which was missing all this while.

Xiaomi recently announced its MIUI 10 at an event. The beta version of MIUI 10 will be rolled out mid-June onwards and stable versions will start rolling out in September.

The company recently launched its Mi 6X smartphone in China, which was speculated to be launched globally as the Mi A2 — a successor to the company’s Mi A1 smartphone. As per a report by XDA Developers, there is a Mi A1 successor in the works, which is said to be based on the Mi 6X, along with another Android One smartphone.
