Xiaomi recently revealed a list of smartphones getting the MIUI 9 update based on Android Nougat. In a MIUI thread, the Chinese smartphone maker has now officially confirmed that MIUI 9 will arrive before August 2017. There is still no word on the exact availability of the operating system for Xiaomi's smartphone lineup.
Android Nougat was first announced at Google's annual developer conference last year and was made available in the form of a public preview for the first time. The operating system is powering less than 10 percent of active Android smartphones and Xiaomi is one of the prominent Android OEMs yet to offer the latest version of Google's mobile operating system.
The listing indicated that Xiaomi will update Mi 6, Mi Max 2, Mi 5c and Redmi 4X to Android 7.1 Nougat, while Mi Max, Mi 5, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, Mi 4c, Mi 4s, Mi Note, Mi Note 2, Mi Mix, Redmi Note 4X, Redmi 4 India version will be pushed to Android 7.0 Nougat. However, the new report claims that Xiaomi has not officially confirmed the device compatibility but it is said to update a total of 14 smartphones to MIUI 9 based Android Nougat.
An unannounced Xiaomi smartphone codenamed Riva was recently spotted on GeekBench benchmarking platform, confirming the handset will run Android 7.1.2 Nougat. The GeekBench listing revealed Xiaomi's plans for updating its smartphones to Android Nougat. The company is expected to share official details about the MIUI 9 update in the coming days and all future smartphones are expected to launch running MIUI 9 out of the box.
