The robotic vacuum cleaner will be available in China from September 6 and is developed by Rockrobo
Xiaomi has unveiled a new robotic vacuum cleaner called the Mi Robot Vacuum. The robot will be available in China from September 6 and is priced at CNY 1,699, which is approximately Rs. 17,000. The Mi Robot Vacuum cleaner is developed by Rockrobo. The vacuum cleaning robot features a Laser Distance Sensor (LDS) that is developed in-house, and is able to scan surroundings in 360 degrees at 1800 times per second. It also uses a Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithm to map out how a house is laid out and plan the best cleaning path. The Mi Robot Vacuum also integrates with the Mi Home app, through which users will be able to not only turn the robot on or off remotely, but also set regular cleaning schedules.
The Xiaomi Mi Robot Vacuum is equipped with a total of 12 sensors including LDS, ultrasonic radar sensor, cliff sensor, gyroscope, and accelerometer. There are also three dedicated processors for real-time mapping and positioning. The main brush of the robot adjusts automatically and the main motor offers air pressure of 1800pa. The Mi Robot Vacuum also sports a 5200mAh battery and Xiaomi says that this is enough for up to 2.5 hours of cleaning.
It is not known if or when Xiaomi plans to launch the Mi Robot Vacuum globally, where it will compete with other vacuum cleaners like the iRobot’s Roomba or Milagrow’s range of products. Xiaomi already has a large portfolio of devices like TVs, water purifiers, and even self-balancing scooters, However, in India, the company is mostly known for smartphones and accessories. The most recent smartphone launched by the company is the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime.
