HIGHLIGHTS

Almost one year after acquiring Beats music service, Apple has announced all-new streaming music service. Apple Music will be competing with on-demand music services like Spotify.

At its WWDC 2015 conference, Apple officially announced its own music streaming service called Apple Music. The service will be available for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, Apple TV, PC and even Android (later) in over 100 countries starting June 30. Apple Music comes with a range of features including a 'Connect', which allows artists to share lyrics, backstage photos, videos or even launch their latest song directly from their iPhone. Also, fans can comment, like and share it through social media.

Apple Music gives users access to 30 million songs. In addition to human curation, Apple Music also comes with Siri integration, making it easier for users to find music. One of the main highlights of the Apple Music is the Beats 1, its first ever live radio station, which will broadcast in over 100 countries. “Exciting programs on Beats 1 will offer exclusive interviews, guest hosts and the best of what’s going on in the world of music. Apple has also redesigned radio with human curation taking the lead. Apple Music Radio gives you stations created by some of the world’s finest radio DJs. The new stations range in genres from indie rock to classical and folk to funk, with each one expertly curated. With membership, you can skip as many songs as you like, so you can change the tune without changing the dial,” explains Apple.

Apple's new music streaming service will compete with highly popular on-demand service like Spotify. Apple had already hinted at entering the music streaming segment when it had acquired Beats Music in 2014. Apple's foray in the music streaming service is considered as a major part of its efforts to expand its ecosystem and includes focus on other platforms such as Android. So far, Apple has rode high on its success in emerging markets, and it's highly likely the company soon expands its service.

“We love music, and the new Apple Music service puts an incredible experience at every fan’s fingertips. All the ways people love enjoying music come together in one app — a revolutionary streaming service, live worldwide radio and an exciting way for fans to connect with artists,” says Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services. “Apple Music is really going to move the needle for fans and artists,” said Jimmy Iovine. “Online music has become a complicated mess of apps, services and websites. Apple Music brings the best features together for an experience every music lover will appreciate.”

Apple's new Music service will be available starting June 30. Apple is offering a -month free membership, after which a $9.99/month subscription fee will apply. There will also be a family plan providing service for up to six family members available for just $14.99/month.
