Wi-Fi range extenders with an ethernet port

Updated on 22-Sep-2021

If you need a range extender for your home, it is always beneficial to pick one with an ethernet port. In addition to extending the reach of your wireless network, the ethernet port can be used to solve multiple issues. For instance, it can provide reliable wired connectivity for devices that need higher speeds or do not support Wi-Fi (meaning, a LAN out). Or it can also use the ethernet port as an input, thereby giving you the ability to increase the range of your Wi-Fi using a cable (thereby possibly extending it further than the limits of your main wireless network). Please note that not all range extenders feature both options, so it is advisable to check for your specific use case. To help you make the most of your next range extender, we’ve curated some options that feature ethernet ports and can function for either use case. These devices also deliver a great mix of unique features and powerful specifications.

TP-Link TL-WA850RE

If your router has a WPS setup option, you can connect the TP-Link 850RE within minutes. Once configured, you can just unplug the extender and plug it in wherever it is needed without requiring any additional configuration. The model features five signal lights that indicate the strength of the signal being received from the router, helping you optimise its placement for the best results. The Tether app allows you to access and manage various features on the extender. The LED lights on the extender can also be configured for a good night’s sleep using the Night Mode feature on the app.

Netgear EX6120

With dual-band Wi-Fi technology, you can use 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands to reduce interference and deliver enough bandwidth for all devices. The FastLane technology aims to enhance streaming and gaming by combining both bands into a single high-speed connection when required. Its design features two external antennas to improve the Wi-Fi coverage further. The model can also function as a Wi-Fi access point using your existing wired connection. With a single button setup, this range extender can connect your existing router immediately. The EX6120 has a small and discrete design that can blend into your home seamlessly.

TP-Link TL-WA855RE

Even with a highly compact size, the TP-Link 855RE can deliver speeds up to 300Mbps wirelessly while extending the range of your Wi-Fi connection. With two external antennas in its design, the range extender provides reliable connectivity where you need it the most. This is further enhanced by its MIMO technology. A single LED changes colour to indicate the optimal placement for the 855RE, making it easy to set up. You can choose its functionality between Repeater Mode and Access Point Mode as needed. Its control interface lets you regulate network access and set up a Power Schedule to keep your network disabled at specific times.

Linksys Max-Stream RE7000

The Spot Finder technology on the Linksys RE7000 uses your smartphone to help you find the best place to locate the range extender. Its support for MU-MIMO connectivity enables you to connect a large number of devices without facing any connectivity issues. The Gigabit Ethernet port lets you deliver high-speed wired connectivity for devices like your gaming console, smart TV and more. To provide fast data transfer, streaming and more, the RE7000 uses its Cross Band technology that combines the dual-bands available. Additionally, with other Max-Stream routers in the same network, this range extender allows your devices to switch automatically to the strongest connection available.
