HIGHLIGHTS

Musk's new moniker combines elements of Pepe the Frog and the "Gladiator" character Maximus, fueling various speculations.

The name change comes alongside a reference to Path of Exile 2, hinting at a potential gaming connection.

Kekius Maximus is also the name of a memecoin, causing a surge in its value following Musk’s name change.

Elon Musk has made another surprising move, this time changing his username and displaying a picture of Pepe the Frog in gladiator armor, leaving the internet confused. While Musk has not provided a reason, the report suggests that the change could be due to internet culture, gaming references, or a nod to the cryptocurrency world. So here’s everything we know about the sudden change in the display picture and username.

According to reports, the name Kekius Maximus could be a combination of Kek, a meme associated with the Pepe the Frog character, and “Maximus,” the gladiator character from the 2000 film Gladiator. Pepe, once a harmless cartoon, became associated with the alt-right and white nationalist movements during the 2016 presidential election, despite Musk’s repeated denials.

Musk has also changed the display image, which now depicts Pepe the Frog dressed in golden armor and holding a video game controller, possibly linking his name change to meme culture and gaming.

In addition, the Kekius Maximus is the name of a memecoin, a type of cryptocurrency based on Internet memes. Following Musk’s profile update, the value of the Kekius Maximus memecoin increased by more than 900%, sparking speculation that Musk may be quietly supporting or promoting the coin. There is no official confirmation from Musk as of yet, but something similar occurred with Dogecoin.

Furthermore, Musk’s name change coincided with renewed speculation about a secret burner account. Many users believe Musk is secretly behind the Adrian Dittmann account, which frequently praises him. This comes after Musk retweeted Dittmann’s post, which mentioned his new Kekius Maximus moniker.

Aside from these speculations, Musk has not provided a clear explanation for the name change or display picture change. It could also be another tactic to keep millions of followers interested, entertained, or engaged.
