HIGHLIGHTS

Over 64% of complaints were related to fund transfers, while 28% faced payment failures.

NPCI has not officially acknowledged the issue, but it appears to be a technical glitch.

SBI and other banks also faced outages yesterday due to financial year-end system updates.

UPI Down: Hundreds of Indian users are experiencing disruptions while making online payments through Paytm, Google Play, and other platforms. This is the second outage in two weeks. Previously, users reported similar issues with online payments. According to Downdetector, the outage peaked in the evening, preventing customers from making payments, transferring funds, or using the app.

Over 64% of users complained about fund transfers, 28% about payments, and the remaining 8% complained about app-related issues. SBI, which experienced a similar outage yesterday, is also having issues.

The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which manages the UPI system, had not acknowledged the problem at the time of writing. The reason for the outage is also unknown at the moment. The outage appears to be the result of a technical glitch, with some users reporting that the deducted amounts will be refunded.

SBI experienced similar disruptions as the fiscal year came to a close on April 1. The NPCI acknowledged intermittent declines, attributing them to bank-specific issues, but assured that the core UPI system remained operational.

“Today due to financial year closing, some of the banks are facing intermittent transaction declines. UPI system is working fine, and we are working with the concerned banks for necessary redressal,” the NPCI, which manages the UPI, had said on April 1 on X.

Simultaneously, SBI announced temporary service disruptions due to annual closing procedures, with Downdetector reporting an increase in SBI mobile banking and fund transfer outage reports. However, some other banks experienced similar disruptions.
