Twitter’s answer to YouTube will launch in 2015
HIGHLIGHTS

If reports are to be believed, the micro-blogging site Twitter is about to launch a video sharing service to rival YouTube.

Twitter plans to launch its own video streaming service in early 2015. Back in November of last year, Twitter had officially announced the video service that will compete against Google’s YouTube. Twitter had earlier bought short video sharing service Vine in late 2012.

Instead of users streaming videos from other websites and services, Twitter wants them to upload and share videos on the microblogging site itself. According to TechCrunch, the videos in question can run up to 10 minutes and can also be in MOV and MP4 formats.

Twitter explains in its official blog “aside from just watching video more easily on Twitter, you should be able to record, edit and share your own videos natively on Twitter too. Alongside short looping Vine videos, we think you’ll have fun sharing what’s happening in your world through native video. You can expect to see this in the first half of next year.”

According to an official FAQ page, Twitter will not support videos hosted anywhere else except its own service. Furthermore, a video uploaded to YouTube can also be uploaded to Twitter’s service , but you cannot reuse the YouTube URL with the Twitter video player.
