The Russo Brothers have debuted the first official trailer for Cherry.
The crime drama follows a young ex-veteran suffering from PTSD, who becomes addicted to opioids and starts robbing banks.

Apple TV+ has released the first official trailer for the Russo brothers’ much-anticipated, upcoming crime drama film – Cherry. Debuting just two days after revealing a teaser on Twitter, the bleak trailer pits Tom Holland and Ciara Bravo in the midst of the American opioid epidemic. Cherry is set to release in selected theatres on 26 February 2021, before hitting Apple's streaming service on 12 March 2021.
Set in the peaceful city of Cleveland in Ohio, the gritty trailer opens up in a quite abrupt manner, as we see a 23-year-old, inexperienced and nervous Nico Walker (Tom Holland) attempting to rob a bank in the middle of the day, using a $1 note for silenced, secretive exchange. As he contemplates his disastrous life choices, we are pulled back in time to the good old carefree days, where we see a young and lanky collegiate, enjoying life and pursuing his love interest, Emily (Ciara Bravo). Unable to find his place in the world, he soon drops out of college and enlists in the Army, not realising that he’s making the biggest mistake of his life. The trailer soon spirals into a montage, jumping between romance, ear-ringing explosions and gunfights in the Iraqi battlefields, to uncontrollable substance abuse, as he tries coming to terms with the horrors of war. As the youthful Army medic struggles with opioid addiction and undiagnosed PTSD, he gets miserable and turns to a life of crime. He says, “I don’t imagine that anyone goes in for a robbery if they’re not in some kind of desperation.” The Russo brothers’ direction also seems to have brought back the long lost charm and humour of Tom Holland, as he makes an untimely yet lighthearted joke about being rude to women. Towards the end of the trailer, we are treated to some more short bursts of clips, looking back at the highs and lows of his drastically emotional and character-driven life.
Directed by the Russo brothers, Cherry is an upcoming crime drama movie based on the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by Nico Walker. The story follows a young ex-veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, who becomes a serial bank robber after an addiction to drugs puts him in debt. The book received an immense amount of praise upon publication, following which, the well-known directors acquired movie rights for the same, at the cost of $1 million, beating out offers from Warner Bros. Pictures and Sony. Adding onto the aforementioned duo, the film also stars Kelli Berglund, Thomas Lennon, Jack Reynor, Michael Gandolfini, Forrest Goodluck, and Jeff Wahlberg.
Earlier this month, we had reported on some set images from another Tom Holland starring film – Uncharted. The movie is set to be a prequel to the game franchise, serving as an origin story for Nathan Drake. You can read more on that here.
