Netflix:

The original G of streaming services, Netflix generally has the best content on the internet, right now. We’ve picked out 3 pieces of media that you should be checking out.

  1. Regiment Diaries- A collection of tales from the edge of war, Regiment Diaries is a show that truly gives us a deeper insight into the men and women who fight for our freedoms. This show will give you new appreciation for our soldiers.
  1. Gangs of New York- A true masterpiece, Gangs of New York is Martin Scorsese’s epic tale of revenge and war in the early history of New York. It truly is a great film that has already done the rounds, but it will feel more special when you’re watching this during our Independence Day.
  1. Dunkirk- A war film with heart, Dunkirk showed us all the Chris Nolan is a filmmaker that is as versatile as he is emotive. A heart-wrenching look at the follies and hubris of World War 2, Dunkirk makes for great Independence Day viewing.

Amazon Prime:

As one of the biggest companies in the world, Amazon has given the OTT streaming market a shot in the arm with Amazon Prime. They’ve got a ton of excellent shows and films for you to sink your teeth into. Here, we’re picking out 3 films that you can sit back and enjoy on Independence Day.

  1. White House Down- Channing Tatum and Jaime Foxx in the same film? What more do you need? This is an action-packed ride that will keep you glued to the edge of your seat. And what better way to spend Independence Day than watching an all-out action flick.
  1. Pacific Rim- A monster movie with a ton of heart and a great message, Pacific Rim is just the right film to get your blood pumping. Punching monsters in the face has never looked this good or felt this real. Guillermo Del Toro really knocked it out of the park with this one.
  1. Saving Private Ryan- A war film that is probably as real as it gets, Saving Private Ryan is a great Independence Day film as it gives you hope even when the chips are down and the enemy is at the gates.

Hotstar:

A subsidiary of Star Networks, Hotstar has steadily been building its library over the past few years. Today, the OTT service hosts almost all of HBO’s catalogue of award-winning shows as well as various Disney properties. Here, we’ll give you 4 options for you to choose from.

  1. Independence Day: Resurgence- Yes, this is a cheesy film, but it is so appropriate for Independence Day. I mean, the film itself is called Independence Day. We wanted to include the original film here, but we thought that the sequel was a modern take on an alien invasion.
  1. The 80’s India- Nostalgia alert. This show is just going to make you long for the days of Goldspot and Limca. Best believe that. The 80’s were an awesome time and it reflected in the country as well. A great watch on Independence Day just to see how far our country has come in 30 odd years.

  1. Fury- Another World War 2 film but this time, we’ve got Brad Pitt looking like the spitting image of a war vet. Starring Shia Lebouf, John Bernthal and more, this film was violent and scary, just like the Second World War was. An excellent watch on Independence Day, that’s for sure.
  1. Free Willy- This is such a great film to watch on Independence Day, Free Willy is the story is a young boy who goes on an insane adventure trying to rescue an Orca (Killer Whale) from an amusement park. It’s a heart-warming film that truly lifts the spirit.
