With season 8, Game of Thrones is finally coming to a close. On May 19, fans will bid farewell to the TV sensation which forever changed the world of streaming. As emotions and anticipation for the new and final season of Game of Thrones ride high, HBO has announced that it will be releasing a two-hour long documentary feature on the making of GoT Season 8. According to the production house, Season 8 of Game of Thrones has been its most challenging and ambitious project to date. The documentary will be called The Last Watch and will debut on May 26, a week after the show’s final airing.
HBO says that the documentary “delves deep into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields and car-parks of Northern Ireland." It further adds that the documentary will focus on the “trenches of production”, including the extreme shoot schedules and environments that actos of the show had to face. It is “a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world – and then have to say goodbye to it," HBO says.
The Last Watch is directed by documentary maker Jeanie Finlay, along with showrunners David Benioff, D.B. Weiss and Bernadette Caulfield. It will be available on HBO, HBO Now, HBO GO and HBO On Demand. In India, it is expected to be made available on Hotstar.
