HIGHLIGHTS

The futuristic family of the Jetsons won’t be a cartoon, but a sitcom. ABC is putting together a pilot for the show.

The Jetsons was a cartoon about a family living 100 years in the future and aired for the first time in the 1960’s. The originally show ran for just one season back in 1962-63 with new episode added in the 1980’s. In the 1990’s the show was taken to the big screen as a film. There was also a crossover between the futuristic family of the Jetsons and the stone age family, the Flintstones in 1987. The one-and-a-half-hour crossover was titled The Jetsons Meet the Flintstones.

The upcoming show will not be animated. It will rather be A multi-camera, live-action reboot. The show will be executive produced by Back to the Future‘s Robert Zemeckis and ABC will put together a pilot for the show. The new show will be written by Gary Janetti who has worked on shows like Will & Grace and Family Guy.

What remains to be seen is how the space age family will be represented in live action. To refresh your memory, the family consisted of George and Jane who were parents to kids Elroy and Judy. The family had a dog named Astro and a maid Rosie the Robot.

We have already seen big screen adaptations of the Flintstones with John Goodman taking on the role of Fred Flintstone. The movie was a box office hit but doesn’t have great reviews on either Rotten Tomatoes or IMDB.
