Tata Motors showcased the Nano EV concept at the 80th Geneva Motor Show on Wednesday, an electric version of their famous Nano small car. It has been designed to provide a similar driving experience to the 600cc petrol Nano, it seats four adults, has a range of 160 km, and an acceleration of 0-60km/h in less than 10 seconds. Engine and power specifications are not available, though Tata Motors has let on that the motive power is provided by “super polymer lithium ion batteries”, which according to them “provide superior energy density to conventional batteries.”
Tata Motors plans to launch the Nano EV in 2011, to be sold alongside the Indica Vista EV, which has already been launched (but will only go on sale in Europe in the latter half of 2010). Mr. Ravi Kant, Vice Chairman, Tata Motors, said, “Electrification will be an integral part of our initiative to launch environment-friendly vehicles. The Indica Vista EV will be introduced in select European countries, beginning this year. We will progressively introduce electric vehicles in all relevant markets.”
The Indica Vista EV, the other electric car from Tata Motors’ stables, offers the advantage of additional boot space, and an extended range of 200km.
