India has the potential to make it big in the consumer electronics space

Known brands like ADATA and new-comers like Goldkey are already manufacturing in India

This change could impact the prices of consumer electronics in India

Foreign brands, especially those from the hub of consumer technology like Taiwan, are always welcome additions to the Indian consumer tech ecosystem. We have seen brands from the country, like ADATA, Transcend, Gigabyte, and MSI, become household names over the years. This year, these brands, along with several others, flocked to Delhi for the Taiwan Expo. I went down to the event to check out what they had to offer and their plans for taking forward the Make in India initiative.

Make in India a big focus at the Taiwan Expo

We spoke to several brand representatives present at the event and got their perspective on their move towards manufacturing in India. Brands like ADATA, who are already active in the Indian computer storage space, are already manufacturing their products in India and have plans on expanding their lineups in the country when it comes to manufacturing their products in the country.

There were also new names like Goldkey. Goldkey is another brand that is trying to make its way into the Indian storage market, and it has set up its product manufacturing facility in India. Speaking to their representative at the event, I learned that the Indian government is helping the brand and manufacturing its products in Bangalore and Chennai.

India can be the manufacturing factory for the world

Elaborating on the growing popularity of India as a manufacturing hub for big-name brands from Taiwan, Mr. Biran Lee, Director Strategic Marketring Department of Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), in a conversation with us, mentioned that India has the potential to become the tech manufacturing factory for the world!

Mr Lee mentioned that India is picking up manufacturing prowess, and Taiwanese companies with products like consumer electronics and even automobiles are actively flocking to the country to not only sell their products here but also collaborate with Indian companies to set up their manufacturing facilities here. Mr Lee added that the products made in India not only have the potential to go big in the Indian market but also be exported to other countries.

We also have some exciting launches at the Expo, including new launches from brands like MSI, who not only showcased their latest products but also emphasised the importance of India as a market for them and its growth potential. MSI, along with ADVANTECH, GIGABYTE, Mbran Filtra, and Zyxel, were the brands owning their special spot at the Taiwan Excellence Pavilion at the event.

With the growing interest of foreign manufacturers in India, as we saw in the Taiwan Expo, we can expect more and more brands to flock to the country to set up their manufacturing facilities. This will not only ensure more employment opportunities for the people and the overall growth of the country but also potentially bring down the cost of consumer electronics in India, which would be a huge win for consumers!
