Sony’s lifestyle push: Short throw projectors, music playing bulbs

Sony has unveiled its new and innovative range of products including Glass Sound Speaker, LED Bulb Speaker, Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector, 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector and more.

Sony India unveiled their new range of lifestyle products that are designed and developed to give customers an “unrivalled lifestyle experiences”. The company showcased its Glass Sound Speaker, LED Bulb Speaker, Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector, 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector, Smart Tennis Sensor, Smart B-Trainer, FES Watch, AROMASTIC, and the Energy 24 battery. However, the company hasn't yet announced the price or availability for any of these devices.

Mr. Kenichiro Hibi, MD Sony India said during the event, “Sony has continuously worked to usher a paradigm shift in the way people work, play and live today. This year, we are taking another leap with our diverse range of products. These products will demonstrate the length and breadth of innovation, quality and expertise that Sony is known for. We believe in listening to our customers and anticipating their needs and shall always endeavor to deliver products that contribute meaningfully to a more enriching life.”

The Glass Sound Speaker is a speaker with a small LED fixed inside a glass enclosure located on the top the speaker. The speaker is already being sold in Japan and the US and comes with an organic glass tube type tweeter and a 13W, 50mm woofer. For connectivity, it supports both WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0.  Sony claims that the speaker can last for about 4 hours on a single charge.

Sony’s new LED Bulb Speaker is another product that combines sound and light. The smart bulb houses a 360 lumen light and has a 2W speaker. It supports playback via bluetooth, and can be connected using NFC and a partner app.

Another product from Sony’s Life Space UX Range is the Portable Ultra Short Throw Projector. It is a small 3.19 x 5.16 x 5.16 -inch projector that can project at 1366 x 768 pixels and can last two hours on a single charge. There is an HDMI port, and can automatically start playing media from a smartphone via Bluetooth. The projector also comes with a small speaker built into the device.

One of the main highlights of the lifestyle lineup by Sony is the 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector. This ultra short throw projector comes with a 2000 lumen laser diode light source that offers a maximum projection of up to 147 inches. The complete projector comprises of the main projector unit, two adjacent speakers, and a couple of cabinets added to the side. The whole unit is made of aluminum and steel.

Sony also unveiled a Smart Tennis Sensor that attaches to a tennis racquet and analyses each stroke. This device is aimed at professionals who want to analyse and improve their gameplay. Results are beamed on your smartphone via bluetooth.

Other products include Smart B-Trainer, which is a personalised training device that creates running logs and plays music according to your training regime. The FES watch is an watch with an e-paper display, AROMASTIC is a portable aroma dispenser, and ENERGY24 Battery is a new battery system developed by Sony that claims to provide 24 hours of output for small tasks such as mobile charging. The battery can be charged using solar energy within an hour and is aimed at rural markets.
