Sony to launch a 12.9-inch tablet in 2015: Rumours

Sony is reportedly planning to challenge iPad Pro with its own premium 12.9 inch tablet.

Sony will launch a large-size 12.9 inch tablet in the first half of 2015 and the device will enter mass production soon, according to reports.

Reports further suggest Sony's 12.9 inch tablet will be manufactured by Pegatron Technology, which also manufacturers Apple's iPad and Microsoft's Surface tablets. The tablet is expected to target mainly the high-end segment and its price may be above US$1,000.

The Sony tablet will have a 12.9-inch display with 3840 x 2400 pixels resolution display. It is expected to be powered by a Qualcomm processor and features an 8 MP camera. The Sony 12.9 inch tablet will be just 8.6mm thick and run on the latest Android 5.0 Lollipop. According to reports, the supply chain has already finished preparing related components for the device's upcoming mass production.

Sony's tablet will compete with other high end devices like the rumored Apple iPad Pro. According to reports, Apple has been working on a 12-inch version of the iPad, dubbed the Apple iPad Pro. The electronics giant will start the production of the tablet in the second quarter of 2015. Sources say, that other vendors will follow to launch large-size tablets in 2015, which will impact demand for notebooks.
