Honor phones to get boost in speed with company’s new GPU Turbo tech
HIGHLIGHTS

With hardware-software integration, the GPU Turbo tech increases graphics processing efficiency to optimise the mobile gaming experience. Debuted with Honor Play, it will be gradually rolled out in other Honor smartphones.

To cater to the increasing demand for graphics processing capabilities in smartphones, Honor has announced GPU Turbo technology. The company claims that with hardware-software integration, the technology will dramatically increases graphics processing efficiency of mobile phones and provide users with a smoother and faster mobile experience.

Honor says that GPU Turbo will first appear on the Honor Play that was launched on Wednesday in Beijing. The technology will be rolled out gradually in other popular Honor smartphones, such as the Honor 10, Honor View10, Honor 9 Lite and Honor 7X.

“We’re thrilled to achieve this technology breakthrough. With GPR Turbo, we are confident that we can highly improve our market advantages by enhancing our graphics processing efficiency and offering the impeccable mobile experience,” said George Zhao, President of Honor.

GPU Turbo reconstructs the traditional graphics processing framework at the lower layer system and improves the user experience.

Huawei and Honor have claimed that after the exploration and accumulation in the field of graphic processing, they achieved a technological breakthrough of improving graphics processing efficiency by 60 percent while reducing the System on Chip (SoC) energy consumption by 30 percent, exceeding the limits of the balance between smartphone performance and energy consumption.

In addition, with greater rendering ability, Honor devices can achieve "outstanding" graphics quality with GPU Turbo, even if the mobile game application does not support High Dynamic Range (HDR) imaging.

Not only mobile gaming, the technology will also provide users a great experience when it comes to the increasingly popular cutting-edge technologies and applications that also demand high graphic processing ability like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and image rendering.

The company said that GPU Turbo will become the core capability of Honor smartphones, resulting in an excellent integration between smartphone hardware and EMUI software, as well as a smoother top layer graphics application.
