Seagate begins shipping its largest high-performance HDD – the 3TB Barracuda XT

Updated on 04-Mar-2011

Seagate has started shipping its highest-capacity high-performance Barracuda XT 3TB HDD, using what it calls the “industry’s most elegant, easy-to-install” solution overcoming the 2TB desktop barrier.

Meant for home servers, workstations, and gaming machines, the 3TB desktop drive ships with Seagate DiscWizard, allowing users to easily configure their operating system and device drivers to allow access of the full 3TB, without using any additional software or hardware that would have been required with legacy PC BIOS systems. This makes it compatible with Windows XP, Vista, and 7, as well as computers with the new UEFI BIOS.

This combined with a 6Gbit/s SATA interface allows it to deliver exceptional performance. India pricing is not yet known, but some international online retailers list it at around $270, or approximately Rs. 12,500.
