Hard disk prices have been crashing pretty much since they were first introduced, and now even portable hard drives have reached a point where they are worth giving a serious thought over the conventional internal hard drives.

1.5 GB is an impressive capacity, even for an internal drive, however in a portable form factor it becomes even more impressive. Although with 3.5” external hard drives there is usually need for an external power supply, and thus portability is a little hampered, the performance gains are quite worth it.
The drive comes enclosed in a brushed metal body, and can be kept flat on a surface, or can be kept upright to save some space. It is quite small in size, despite being based on a 3.5” HDD, with dimension of (175.0 mm x 33.7 mm x 172 mm), however weighs almost 1kg.
Like standard with most portable hard drives, it comes with software for automatic backups, and security software for encrypting files and folders on the drive. This drive however also comes with sync software, to synchronize between multiple portable drives. All this software comes preloaded on the hard drive, so there is no need for any additional CD’s.
Some effort has also gone into making the hard drive more ‘green’; the drive automatically shuts down after a predefined period of inactivity (by default 15 minutes). The hard drive tried to incorporate the best of all fields of design, external, and internal. Seagate’s standard 5 year warranty is a boon as usual.
Its 1.5 TB capacity may intimidate some, however you only need to remember how much even 100GB meant just 5 years ago, and you will realize that you don’t compromise on a long term relationship!
