I am sure that you’ve heard this multiple times but every tech company worth its salt is infusing itself with and unleashing AI in innovative ways. From the industry leaders to the newest of start-ups, everyone is trying to break through in this space, and maximise their fortune. Not surprisingly, therefore, Samsung, an industry leader in many spaces, is trying to ace the AI game as well. According to reports, the Korean tech giant is working on an AI chip called Mach 1 that could be out as early as next year — that’s 2025.

A self-developed AI chip is under construction at the Samsung headquarters. It is called Mach 1 and we could get to see its wonders in little over a year from now. The same is expected to go into mass production by the end of the year. Needless to say, this could give a big boost to Samsung.
You may ask, why is this big news? Well with its AI-focused semiconductor chip, Samsung plans on breaking the strength that Nvidia holds in this space and maybe even aims to become the largest AI semiconductor company in the world.
Speaking of Mach 1, reports suggest that the Samsung chip will be suitable for AI inference processes. Further, this lightweight chipset might help reduce the strain between memory and GPU by about one-eighth of the existing level. It might not even need expensive high-bandwidth memory and would work on low-power memory.

Kyung Kye-hyun, CEO of Samsung Electronics, said, “The technical validation of Mach-1 has been completed through programmable chips (FPGA), and we are currently proceeding with System-on-Chip (SoC) design.” He further added, “We will produce the chips by the end of the year, and early next year, we will be able to see AI systems made with our chips.”
