Samsung has just shared that it is now stepping into a new area- Mixed Reality. The South Korean tech giant recently confirmed that it is working on a mixed-reality headset, by sharing a teaser image. The device will reportedly debut in 2025 and currently goes by the name of Project Moohan. With this, Samsung will challenge Apple and Meta directly. And here’s everything that we know about it so far.
The device can run on Google’s newly launched Android XR platform. It can sport advanced displays, passthrough capabilities, and intuitive controls. It can resemble the Apple Vision Pro in concept and promises immersive experiences like exploring the world with Google Maps, enjoying sports on YouTube, and planning trips with the help of Gemini AI.
Unlike the current devices in the market, Project Moohan is being designed for long-term comfort and ease of use. For this, Samsung is collaborating with Google and Qualcomm, a partnership announced early last year. Qualcomm further revealed that the headset will feature silicon capable of supporting up to 4.3K resolution per eye at 90 frames per second. This will help with high-quality visuals for users.
Google’s Android XR platform will power Project Moohan. It is a new operating system tailored to develop headsets and glasses apps. It also includes tools like ARCore, Android Studio, and OpenXR, it supports immersive virtual experiences. The platform also includes AI-driven features such as screen control, contextual information, and Circle search via Gemini AI.
While the South Korean tech giant has not unveiled an official time frame for launch, it is expected to be launched during the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event along with the upcoming Galaxy S25 series. It will hopefully take place in January. We will keep you updated with more details.
