Samsung has been betting big on its mid-range A-series and J-series smartphones. Thanks to the success of its J-series, Samsung has been able to regain the market share it lost to Xiaomi. The company credits the success to the flagship innovation that it rolled out to smartphones that belong to the mid-level segment. One such innovation could be the wireless charging. A Korean news outlet has claimed that the company could soon launch an affordable wireless charger for mid-segment smartphones. This could essentially mean that Samsung may soon bring wireless charging to the phones belonging to the above-mentioned series.
Currently, wireless charging is only available on Samsung’s flagship models, the support of which started from the Galaxy S7 and now has been extended to the recently-launched Galaxy Note 9. ETNews claims that Samsung will launch a low-cost wireless charger for 20,000 won (approx Rs 1300). It also notes that the mass production of related parts has already been started. Currently, the wireless charging duo costs (approx Rs 6000) and the wireless charging pad is priced at 60,000 won (approx Rs 4000). Noteworthy is that the entry-level wireless chargers is claimed to come with 9 watt rapid charge support which is currently seen in the expensive wireless chargers that Samsung offers.
The core component, the Wireless Charge Transmitter (Tx) module, is reported to be supplied by Chemtronics. Chemtronics has also supplied transmitters in Samsung's wireless charging pads, the report says. Recently, DJ Koh, President and CEO of IT & Mobile Communications Division, Samsung Electronics, said that the company has changed the strategy for the Indian market. “You will see devices coming from us in the mid-segment space with flagship features and functionalities. The fourth quarter (October-December) will see some exciting launches that will alter the course of the mid-segment market,” The Financial Express quoted Koh as saying.
