As we had speculated, Samsung has launched its rugged Galaxy Tab Active2 tablet in India. The device has passed military grade MIL-STD 810G certification and is targeted for workplaces. Some highlights of the Galaxy Tab Active2 are Enhanced Touch so that the device can be operated with wet hands or while using a glove. It also features Pogo Pins so that one can connect additional accessories, comes with S-pen support and its battery is also removable. The tablet is priced at Rs 50,990 and will be available in India from mid-march 2019.
The Samsung Galaxy Tab Active2 is powered by the Samsung Exynos 7870 SoC and features an 8-inch TFT display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It sports 3GB RAM, which is coupled with 16GB of internal storage. It was originally announced running on Android 7.1 Nougat in the US but there’s no mention whether the OS has been updated with the device’s India launch. The tablet comes equipped with an 8MP rear camera that has Auto Focus support and a 5MP front-facing sensor. It supports face unlock and also comes equipped with a fingerprint sensor.
“The Galaxy Tab Active2 is protected against vibrations, accidental shocks and drops, rain and dust, and can remain 1.5 meter underwater for 30 minutes. It can take extreme temperatures inside and outside (storage -40°C to 80°C, operating -20°C to 71°C). The IP68 certification enables the user to access and work even in rainy or inclement weather conditions,” Samsung’s media release reads. The device features LTE connectivity and is equipped with Samsung’s proprietary security platform, Knox.
Alongside MIL-STD 810G certification, the Galaxy Tab Active2 and is also IP68 dust and water resistant. Samsung claims that it can survive for 30 minutes in five-foot-deep water. It supports input with an S Pen too and also packs AR capabilities. Backed by a 4450mAh removable battery, the tablet is slated to deliver around 11 hours of battery backup on a full charge. As mentioned earlier, it sports POGO pin connectors on its spine to which one can attach accessories like a keyboard.
