Saavn music app on Facebook driving growth for both companies

Updated on 17-Feb-2012

Saavn (South Asian Audio Video Network), the popular music streaming service specializing in Bollywood, Indian, devotional and regional South Asian music, has had a Facebook app since December. Apart from keeping up to date with the latest in the world of Saavn, Facebook fans of the service can create and listen to playlists, discover and share music via Facebook’s News Feed, Ticker and Timeline.

The Facebook Saavn app will also let users share and discover music via Twitter feeds. The Facebook integration is similar to what Spotify also offers its users, and according to a recent TechCrunch report, the social networking giant is looking for such deals to get a stronger hold on the fast growing Indian market. The company admitted it was looking at the country as a strategic growth area in the future.

A statement by Saavn explains the partnership: “We are helping Facebook build local relevance in India through Indian music. Bollywood is a cultural phenomena that connects all of India’s 30 languages and religions.”

For Saavn, its stint as a Facebook Open Graph partner has been a success story. The music service had roughly 35,000 monthly active users before launching a Facebook app, a number which shot to 785,000 within four weeks. Daily new users of the Saavn Facebook application increased 40 times in the same period, and have generated over 750 million Facebook story impressions. Nearly half of all the service’s newest registered members use Facebook Connect regularly.

According to Saavn, the global service is accessible in 219 countries, and currently has 1.3 million users, primarily based out of India, Indonesia, the Philippines, Turkey and the U.S.
