Revolt announces RV400 electric motorcycle in India

In a bid to mark itself as one of the first few players in the Indian electric motorcycle market, Revolt Intellicorp Pvt Ltd announced its first offering in New Delhi earlier today. Christened RV400, Revolt’s motorcycle is fully electric and capable of seating two adults. It’s expected to be available for pre-order from June 25 on Amazon.in and Revolt’s website in two colours: Rebel Red and Cosmic Black. Revolt has yet to announce the final price of the RV400.

Saving the technical details of the RV400 for a future media gathering, Revolt gave away little information about its EV. However, what we’ve learnt so far is that it has a removable lithium-ion battery that can be fully charged in under four hours using a 15A domestic wall socket. The battery can be charged inside the motorcycle or at home since it’s removable. It can also be swapped completely for another suitable Revolt battery. The RV400 has projector headlamps, disc brakes on both wheels, and a fully digital instrument cluster.

The RV400 is connected to the user’s smartphone using a proprietary app, which lets the user perform various functions remotely, including ignition, vehicle tracking, and geo-fencing. In select regions, the user can also request for a fully charged battery to be delivered to their home or office location, in addition to picking one up themselves from a nearby swap station. Revolt is yet to reveal the price for such battery swapping and delivery services.

“The RV 400 is the first step towards providing sustainable, affordable mobility to every Indian home. RV 400 challenges every convention that riders have pertaining to the EV’s [sic] – Power, Styling and Aesthetics, Range, Battery charging infrastructure, Security, Sound and Service,” commented Rahul Sharma, Founder and Chief Revolutionary Officer of Revolt Intellicorp Pvt Ltd. Sharma is best known for co-founding Micromax nearly three decades ago. Headquartered in Gurgaon and led by 45 R&D members, Revolt will manufacture its electric motorcycles in Manesar. About 1,20,000 units are expected to be manufactured during Phase 1 of its production plan.

The top speed of the Revolt RV400 is said to be limited to 85 kilometres per hour. The range of the RV400 on a fully charged battery is 156 kilometres, according to ARAI. In everyday use scenarios, we expect the range to be around 100 kilometres. The Revolt RV400 is expected to be delivered to customers in seven major metros in the next four months. Though the price has not yet been announced, we expect the Revolt RV400 to cost somewhere between Rs 80,000 and a lakh. We expect to know more in the coming weeks.
