Raymond set to replace 10000 factory workers in India with robots: Reports
The apparel manufacturer will be cutting loose factory workers across 16 facilities in India, replacing every 100 workers with 1 robot.
The Robot Vs Human war is heating up in the Indian manufacturing industry. In a bold move by apparel manufacturer Raymond, the company will be letting go of 10,000 workers across 16 manufacturing facilities in India. These workers will be replaced by robots over the next 3 years.
Speaking on the subject, Raymond CEO, Sanjay Behl said, “One robot could replace around 100 workers. While it is happening in China at present, it will also happen in India.”
Automation of manufacturing facilities is a concept that has been gaining momentum in the past few years. Back in May, iPhone manufacturer Foxconn also replaced 60,000 factory workers with robots, with many other companies in China following suit. Recently, ICICI Bank also announced the deployment of Software Robotics in its internal operations across 200 processes. These software tools emulate repetitive human actions to automate high volume time consuming business tasks.
While replacing humans with robots is one way of automating tasks in a manufacturing facility, many factories also use cobots to increase the efficiency of their assembly lines. Cobots are robots that collaborate with humans in order to increase productivity in a manufacturing unit. Watch this video below to see a cobot in action.
