Two engineering marvels, Boeing 737-800 and the Tesla S P90D, race it out.
A new promotional video launched by Qantas shows what happens when two impressive engineering creations battle it out in a race. Point in hand: An age-old debacle between aircrafts and supercars.
Qantas, Australia’s national carrier, and Tesla, California-based maker of premium electric cars, have joined hands in investigating sustainable future opportunities to boost sustainability in the transport industry. To celebrate this collaborative venture, they raced a Qantas Boeing 737-800 aircraft against a Tesla Model S P90D.
The Boeing 737 can cruise in the sky at 850 kmph, and can approach the speed of sound. The Tesla S, when switched to digital drive mode from ‘Sport’ to ‘Ludicrous’, can accelerate from 0 to 100 Kmph in 3 seconds. The race track for this exclusive test of innovation and power was a 3-kilometre runway at Avalon airport, south-west of Melbourne, Australia. In the video, the Tesla gets an early advantage, with the Boeing catching up at the end of the runway to take off into the sky. Tesla S is the obvious winner on the ground, until the 737 enters flight mode. Will Teslas fly in the future? With Elon Musk at helm, maybe.
