Porsche launched the third-generation Cayenne in India yesterday. The company unveiled three variants of its new SUV: the Cayenne, the Cayenne Turbo, and the Cayenne E-Hybrid. The Cayenne, with its 3-litre V6 turbo petrol engine, produces 340 horsepower, enough to launch the car from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed time of 6.2 seconds. The Cayenne Turbo, with its 4-litre V8 twin-turbo petrol engine, produces 550 horsepower, enough to make the car vault itself from 0 to 100 kmph in a claimed time of 3.9 seconds. The Cayenne and the Cayenne Turbo are priced at Rs 1.19 crore and Rs 1.92 crore respectively.

Along with the new Cayenne, Porsche India also launched the Cayenne E-Hybrid, a plug-in hybrid version of the SUV. It uses a 3-litre V6 petrol engine combined with a 100kW electric motor to produce 462 horsepower collectively. It claims to go from 0 to 100 kmph in 5 seconds flat. Like the other two variants, the Cayenne E-Hybrid features active all-wheel drive and optional rear-wheel steering for a smaller turning radius.

The Cayenne E-Hybrid features four driving modes: E-Power, Hybrid Auto, Sport, and Sport Plus. In E-Power mode, the car runs only on the electric motor, which can last up to 44 kilometres after a full charge. In Hybrid Auto mode, the car uses both the petrol engine and the electric motor in an optimised manner. In Sport mode, the petrol engine is always activated by default, ready for sudden launches. In Sport Plus mode, the full potential of the petrol engine is made use of. The engine’s power reserves are used to charge the battery up.

The Cayenne series uses a new lightweight chassis, thus enjoying an overall weight saving of up to 65 kilogrammes over the previous model. It employs Porsche’s Surface Coated Brake on all four wheels: a surface specially made of tungsten carbide to keep the brake discs free of rust and dust. On the inside, the Cayenne features a 14-speaker BOSE Surround Sound System that delivers 710 watts in total. The Cayenne E-Hybrid is priced at Rs 1.58 crore.
