OpenAI’s ChatGPT is a pretty popular AI chatbot, but is it the most efficient one? Paytm founder Shekhar Sharma doesn’t think so. He has come up with an interesting analogy of his own regarding ChatGPT and compared it to older generations getting a hang of the Taylor Swift craze.
This comparison came up during a conversation initiated by Aravind Srinivas, the founder and CEO of Perplexity AI. He claims that Perplexity AI outperforms ChatGPT in terms of intelligence. Agreeing with the same, Sharma said that using ChatGPT was similar to someone from the Bono and Roger Waters era engaging with Taylor Swift.
“ChatGPT is like talking Taylor Swift to your grandfather who is from the Bono and Roger Waters era. Perplexity is perpetually intelligent. Then and now,” he said in a tweet.
Sharma further added that Perplexity AI provides a more robust and current understanding of ongoing events as compared to ChatGPT. He said that ChatGPT had a big limitation. It was reliant on a dataset that was only updated up to a certain date. Because of this, it cannot process and give details about recent events.
Srinivas even tested both of the AI chatbots by giving them the same prompts. He asked both ChatGPT (in its free version) and Perplexity the same question: “What has triggered X being restricted in Brazil?”
To this, ChatGPT gave a more generic answer stating Brazil’s broader regulatory actions against misinformation and hate speech, particularly during sensitive times like elections. On the other hand, Perplexity AI gave a more precise and timely answer. It informed how the ban was put in place as X failed to comply with a judicial order from the Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes.
And that’s why the above comparison. Let me know what you think about Sharma’s statement.
