Pavan Davuluri, an alumnus of IIT Madras, has taken charge as the new head of Microsoft Windows and Surface. Davuluri succeeds Panos Panay, who left last year to join Amazon. With this appointment, we get to see a slight change from the previous Microsoft hierarchy where the Windows and Surface divisions operated under separate leadership. Davuluri hails from India and pursued his bachelor’s from the coveted Indian Institute of Technology Madras. After that, it was in 1999 he moved to the States and joined the University of Maryland to pursue a Master of Science degree.

What was Pavan Davuluri doing at Microsoft for the past 23 years?

In 2001, Davuluri joined Microsoft as a Reliability Component Manager. Ever since then, for over 23 years now, he has held various positions at the company. Before his promotion, he was the Corporate Vice President, overseeing Windows Silicon and Systems Integration.

What does the new role entail?

Under Davuluri’s leadership, the Windows and Surface divisions will merge into the Experiences + Devices (E+D) division. This restructuring reflects Microsoft’s commitment to a holistic approach in developing products and services tailored for the AI era. He will lead a team which will aim at developing silicon systems.
