HIGHLIGHTS

Panasonic has added two new tablets to its Toughpad portfolio. One of them runs on Android whereas the other is powered by Windows 8 Pro.

The Panasonic Toughpad series have been known to have a rugged exterior to handle a certain degree of torture. This product category was limited to laptops. Now tablets have also joined this bandwagon.

To start with, we have the Toughpad FZ-G1. To start with, it has a 10.1-inch WUXGA display with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels. The 3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3437UvPro Processor clocked at up to 2.9GHz powers the device along with 4GB of RAM (expandable up to 8GB).

The Panasonic Toughpad FZ-G1 also houses the Intel HD Graphics 4000 UMA. For its rugged nature, the device has 120cm drop shock resistant and is also water and dust resistant. It houses a 128GB SSD and runs on Windows 8 Pro. You also have an optional 3G variant of the tablet. The Toughpad FZ-G1 is priced at a whopping Rs. 1,75,000 (excluding taxes).

Moving on to the Android-powered tablet, we have the Toughpad JT-B1. To start with, it has a 7-inch daylight readable 4-point multi touch display with a resolution of 1024×600 pixels. Under the hood, it has a 1.5GHz Texas Instruments OMAP4460 processor coupled with 1GB of RAM. It has 16GB built-in storage expandable up to 32GB via a MicroSD card.

In terms of connectivity options, Panasonic Toughpad JT-B1, shows off Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, NFC and there is an optional 3G variant as well. What’s a little disappointing is that the tablet runs on the outdated Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in a day and age dominated by Jelly Bean. A 5720mAh battery powers the device and it is user replaceable. The Toughpad JT-B1 is priced at Rs. 69,000 (excluding taxes).
