Opera Mini 6.1, Opera Mobile 11.1 launched with auto-complete, auto-suggest features

In a bid make to mobile browsing easier, Opera has launched two new updated versions of its browsers – Opera Mini 6.1 and Opera Mobile 11.1. The new browsers come with search suggestions features from Google and Yandex; a built-in search field that will furnish suggestions as you type. Also, a number of new features have been added such as support for auto -complete and “intelligent domain suggest”, which makes the browser adapt to a user’s search habits, analysing new top-level domains such as .uk, .ru and .id, to help users type less when entering website url.

“We have a saying at Opera: Listen to our users,” says Dag Olav Norem, VP Product Management, Opera Software. “As a company, we are constantly listening to our users on what they want in their browser. So, to our most vocal consumers, thank you and keep the feedback coming!”

The two browsers have similar appearance but Opera says they have different user interface altogether. The Opera Mini browser uses Opera servers to transcode and compress webpages by up to 90pc before they are sent to the device. The browser also has data compression feature, making it compatible with almost every phone. Opera claims the browser is faster and cost effective too. The browser is available on Java (J2ME), BlackBerry, S60, Android, and iOS.

The new Opera Mobile 11.1 browser, according to Opera, is a powerful web browser and has same rendering engine as Opera for desktop. The browser also gives HTML5 support to smartphones and tablets. On the Opera Mobile browser, compression can be enabled / disabled as you prefer. It’s available on: Android, S60, Win7 Desktop, and MeeGo devices.

Opera Mobile is built around a common core that all Opera browsers share, Opera Presto. With Opera Mobile 11.1. According to Opera, an upgrade to Opera Presto will provide better standards support and improved performance for end users. In Opera Mobile 11.1, the CSS support now includes multi-columns and linear gradients right on your mobile phone.

The Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers are available as free downloads at m.opera.com and in the Android Market.
