HIGHLIGHTS

OpenAI's Sora allows users to generate realistic videos from text prompts, available globally, including in India.

The platform offers 50 videos at 480p resolution each month for free, with Pro plans offering enhanced usage and video quality.

Safeguards are in place to block harmful content like deepfakes and child sexual abuse materials.

After Google’s Veo, OpenAI has finally introduced the text-to-realistic video-creating platform Sora. Taking to the blog post, the San Francisco-based startup stated that it has taken valuable feedback from Indian artists, filmmakers, and creatives. For the unversed, OpenAI now allows users to create realistic videos based on the text prompts. The platform is now available in India and other parts of the world. It is worth mentioning that Sora is only available for users who have ChatGPT Plus subscriptions at no extra cost.

As per the latest blog post, after the initial research preview earlier this year, OpenAI has been working with artists, including those in India to make the user experience even better. “India has a world-renowned community of creatives, artists, and filmmakers, and we’re excited to see the innovative ways they will use Sora,” an OpenAI spokesperson said.

If you have not accessed OpenAI Sora yet, you can create videos with a duration of up to 20 seconds in length. It can be up to 1080p and the users can download them within various aspect ratios, including widescreen, vertical, and square formats.

The OpenAI Sora allows users to get up to 50 videos at 480p resolution or less if they need a 720p video with higher-tier Pro plans offering more usage and enhanced video quality. However, these are the initial allowances and OpenAI will be introducing the specific prices for Sora, depending on the user needs early next year.

“You can generate up to 50 videos at 480p resolution or fewer videos at 720p each month. For those who want more Sora, the Pro plan includes 10x more usage, higher resolutions, and longer durations. We’re working on tailored pricing for different types of users, which we plan to make available early next year,” OpenAI said in a blog.

OpenAI has also integrated the safeguards into Sora, blocking the platform from making deepfakes and child sexual abuse materials. The platform also offers watermarks for video transparency and tools to verify content origins.

“We are blocking particularly damaging forms of abuse, such as child sexual abuse materials and sexual deepfakes. Uploads of people will be limited at launch, but we intend to roll the feature out to more users as we refine our deepfake mitigations,” the blog added.
