Google is all set to host its annual developer conference, the Google I/O on May 14th. But it seems that it is not going to be a smooth sail for Google till that date. Google holds the search engine monopoly globally and no one has been able to come close to its success. However, it seems that OpenAI might be eyeing that. Recent leaks reveal that OpenAI might be working on a search engine. Well, this takes competition to the next level. Read along to find out more.

Leakster Jimmy Apples took to X (formerly Twitter) to share that OpenAI might have been working on a search engine for a while now and they are planning to launch it soon. He says that the company can unveil the search engine during an in-house event which is scheduled for May 9th at 10 AM. The timing in particular is pretty interesting. OpenAI is planning to steal Google’s thunder right before its annual event, where Google will make big announcements related to AI. When everyone was expecting a new flagship model from OpenAI, they would drop a new search engine.

Well, there is some weight to these rumours. A log file shared on Pastebin by Jimmy Apple shows us search.chatgpt.com as the subdomain. If you try checking this subdomain, it will currently display “Not Found” instead of throwing a 404 or NXDOMAIN error. The SSL certificate for the domain was also issued on April 25, 2024, according to a Beebom report.
There have been previous reports suggesting the same too. It will now be interesting to see what OpenAI actually releases and how Google fights it.
