OpenAI introduces GPT 4.5 with expanded capabilities: Here’s how you can access it

GPT-4.5 enhances unsupervised learning for better intuition and accuracy.
Currently available for ChatGPT Pro users, with broader access coming soon.
API access is offered, but long-term availability depends on user feedback.
OpenAI has unveiled the GPT 4.5 model as a research preview. According to the company, this model advances pre-training and post-training by improving pattern recognition, generating insights, and reducing hallucinations.
OpenAI claims that GPT-4.5 scales unsupervised learning to improve intuition and knowledge accuracy. The model is anticipated to be more dependable across a range of topics because it was trained on Microsoft Azure AI supercomputers. It does not, however, include reasoning-based responses, which OpenAI o1 and other models do not have.
How to access it
ChatGPT Pro users can now access GPT-4.5, and Plus, Team, Enterprise, and Edu users will be able to do so gradually. It facilitates text-based interactions, file and image uploads, and search-based access to the most recent information. Multimodal features like voice mode, video, and screen sharing are currently absent, though.

“GPT‑4.5 has access to the latest up-to-date information with search, supports file and image uploads, and can use canvas to work on writing and code. However, GPT‑4.5 does not currently support multimodal features like Voice Mode, video, and screensharing in ChatGPT. In the future, we will work to simplify the user experience so AI “just works” for you,” said the company in its blog.
Additionally, OpenAI has highlighted safety, claiming that the model was subjected to human feedback-driven reinforcement learning and supervised fine-tuning. Prior to deployment, the company carried out safety assessments and documented the results in a system card that went with it.

While GPT-4.5 is being made available to developers via the API, OpenAI notes that it is a compute-intensive model that costs more to run than GPT-4o. Based on user feedback and adoption, the business is considering whether to continue providing long-term API access.
