Imagine one day you dial up a landline call and it is answered by ChatGPT! Sounds crazy right? But it’s now happening in reality. OpenAI has now introduced ChatGPT to landline phones as well. Users in the US can now talk to ChatGPT directly over the phone. The service was launched last Wednesday.

To talk to ChatGPT, users simply have to dial 1-800-242-8478 (1-800-CHATGPT). Sharing the same, OpenAI Chief Product Officer Kevin Weil said, OpenAI is to make artificial general intelligence beneficial to all of humanity, and part of that is making it as accessible as possible to as many people as we can.” He further added, “Today, we’re taking the next step and bringing ChatGPT to your telephone.”

He even shared that this was a very recent project. “The team built this just a few weeks ago… We’re just getting started making ChatGPT more accessible to all of you,” he said.

This phone call service is pretty similar to ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode but this one operates solely through audio. Users can ask questions or perform tasks like language translation, all on the phone call. OpenAI is offering 15 minutes of free calling, after which the call ends. Standard carrier fees may apply. And this is not all. ChatGPT is now also available on WhatsApp. You can directly access ChatGPT on WhatsApp chat. It doesn’t have the customisation options on the ChatGPT app, but you don’t need an account to access it. However, there’s a daily usage limit, after which users are prompted to switch to the app or desktop version.

In the future, OpenAI can also include features like image analysis and web search features for WhatsApp. The timeline for a launch in India hasn’t been revealed yet, but let’s hope that it comes soon.
