To convey the importance of its market in India, OnePlus has announced a new Project Starlight. The project has been set up to address concerns specifically raised by its Indian user base. For the same, OnePlus has decided to invest Rs 2000 crore annually over three years. The company aims to enhance its devices and services specifically for India.

Sharing the same, Robin Liu, CEO of OnePlus India, emphasised the importance of India during the announcement in Shenzhen, China. “India is one of our largest strategic priorities. Through Project Starlight, we’re committed to solving challenges unique to this market and offering tailored solutions,” said Liu.

The initiative mainly focuses on durability, after-sales service, and innovation. One major highlight of Project Starlight is the Double 85 Torture Test. This test will subject OnePlus phones to 85°C temperature and 85% humidity for extended durations, ensuring reliability in India’s harsh conditions. The upcoming OnePlus 13 has already passed this rigorous test and features a new display bonding technology to deal with the OLED aging and the green-line issue prevalent in humid climates such as that of India.

Further, OnePlus is now offering a lifetime display warranty on its devices, including the OnePlus 13. It guarantees free replacements in case customers face display issues. The green line issue on OnePlus smartphones has been a big concern that Indian users have been dealing with and even loyal customers are switching to other brands because of this.

Further, Project Starlight will also improve connectivity and performance for Indian users. The OnePlus 13 will support 5.5G networks, tested with Jio to achieve speeds of up to 1Gbps. Additionally, a new networking algorithm is being put in place to enhance signal performance in underground metro networks like the Delhi Metro.

Another India-focused feature is Steady Connect, which ensures uninterrupted Bluetooth connectivity between the OnePlus 13 and OnePlus Buds over distances of up to 300 meters. OnePlus is also expanding its service network. The company plans to increase service centers by 50% by 2026, focusing on Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
