OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3’s last major update will be Android O, confirms company
Android O will be the last major update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T, the flagship smartphones introduced last year. The company also plans to end the open beta program after the roll-out of the Android O update.
Android O will be the last major update for OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T flagship smartphones from OnePlus. The company has confirmed on their forums that both the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T won't receive any major update after Android O.
OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 3, the flagship smartphones announced last year, will meet the fate of the OnePlus 2, the flagship smartphone from 2015. In an official forum post, OnePlus' Community Manager and Head of Product, Oliver Z, wrote, "Android O is going to be the last Android version update we’ll release for OP3/3T. We’ll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates."
Oliver further confirmed that OnePlus will end the Open Beta Program for OnePlus 3 and 3T after rolling out the Android O update. OnePlus has been pushing out updates to test new features before its general rollout via the beta program. After the Android O update for OnePlus 3 and 3T, the company will move the Open Beta Program to OnePlus 5.
The OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T users were slated to receive the OxygenOS 4.5 update with the latest August security patch, but the company delayed the OxygenOS update. Oliver has now confirmed that both the handsets will receive a security patch for August without the OxygenOS 4.5 update.
Back in June, OnePlus had confirmed that the OnePlus 2 won't receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. The company kept a lot of users in the dark before confirming that its smartphone from 2015 won't receive latest Android flavour. With OnePlus 3, 3T now confirmed to not receive any major Android update after Android O, it should come as a disappointment to the users of one of the most well rated smartphone.
