Tegra 4 might just power the future WIndows RT tablets

According to a Digitimes research analyst, NVIDIA Tegra 4 may be the next Surface RT platform. The current generation of Surface RT is powered by NVIDIA Tegra 3, so it seems logical for Microsoft to stick with NVIDIA for its next-gen RT tablet and also for other OEMs manufacturing Windows RT tablets, according to the report. NVIDIA CEO, Huang, had demoed the HDR capabilities of Tegra 4 on an unnamed Windows RT tablet.

“Since NVIDIA has a long history of cooperation with Microsoft in terms of graphics and GPGPU computing technologies, while demand for GPU computing has started to weigh heavier, these advantages are all expected to help NVIDIA become competitive in the Windows RT market,” said Eric Lin, the Digitimes research analyst.

Tegra 4 is a quad-core Cortex A15 system-on-chip (with a fifth low-power companion core) based on a 28nm manufacturing process and has 72 GPU cores. According to NVIDIA Tegra 4 is the fastest mobile processor in the world right now. You can read more about the Tegra 4 chip and see some performance comparison charts here
