The Nokia N1 tablet was recently spotted in the import data of Zauba, and currently a single tablet is in India for testing purposes. Nokia’s first device after being acquired by Microsoft, the N1 tablet is currently sold in only two countries, China and Taiwan. It is manufactured by Foxconn under a licensing deal with Nokia, and debuted earlier this year in China, before being launched in Taiwan.
While nothing has been spoken about an India launch for the N1, it is possible that the tablet might soon be launched here. As of now, however, there is no confirmed news about its marketing or pricing.
The Nokia N1 tablet has seen some rave responses right since its launch in China, and Foxconn has been unable to meet the demands for the tablet. The Nokia N1 has a 7.9-inch display with 1536×2048 resolution. The device is powered by an Intel Atom Z3580 processor. This is the same chip which powers Asus Zenfone 2 phones (of above Rs. 19,999). It comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, without a microSD or SIM slot. The tablet can only connect via wifi.
The tablet also offers two cameras — front and rear. The rear primary camera is an 8MP snapper, while the one on the front is a 5MP one. It runs Android Lollipop v5.0 instead of the usual Windows OS seen in most Nokia/Microsoft devices. The tablet also offers an aluminium build and a slim form factor similar to the Apple iPad Mini 3, and weighs 318 grams.
Nokia is presently not allowed to manufacture or sell products under its own name due to its agreement with Microsoft. Thus, speculations arise on selling rights of the N1, if it is indeed introduced in India. All we know is that Foxconn is still setting up shop and Nokia is still waiting for the agreement to end by Q2 of 2016. While this rules them out, a third company may be roped in for marketing the Nokia N1 tablet.
