Nokia has “something” new up its sleeve, teases a black box
HIGHLIGHTS

Nokia is making a huge return with a new hardware, which will be officially announced today. Nokia has posted photo of a device that looks very similar to an Apple TV.

Nokia is set to make a big comeback with a new device. The company has already started teasing the device – which appears to be a black box – via its official Twitter handle. The mysterious black box looks very similar to Apple TV, triggering speculations that it could be a streaming set top box that runs Android TV, like the recently announced Nexus Player.

Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri at a recent analyst meeting in London had made it clear that the company isn't looking to return to handsets, but will “return to the consumer world”. It's notable Nokia is restricted on using its brand on phones until 2016 as part of acquisition deal with Microsoft. Nokia is supposed to focus on networking, technologies and maps division.

According to reports, Nokia is also looking to license its brand to third party manufacturers who can create devices and products with Nokia branding – a move that's likely to keep the Nokia brand alive.

Nokia is scheduled to launch the new device at Slush 2014, a start summit held in Helsinki.

The latest development comes at a time Microsoft is re-branding Nokia products. Future Lumia phones will be launched as Microsoft Lumia. Last week, Microsoft unveiled Lumia 535, first Lumia device sans Nokia branding.

Nokia in its last stages had made some unique efforts to increase its base in the smartphone segment. It launched X series of smartphones, which were based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). However, the phones didn't receive positive reviews.

That being said, Nokia has certainly created some buzz around its upcoming product. What will it be? Will it help Nokia regain lost ground? Let us know your views in the comments section below:
