Nikon is going to space, literally! Nikon’s flagship mirrorless camera, the Nikon Z9 has accompanied pilots on the Cygnus cargo spacecraft, which was launched on January 13. The camera has been received at the International Space Station (ISS) and is all set to capture beautiful pictures of Earth. Along with the camera, some NIKKOR Z lenses have also been sent to the ISS. It is a significant moment for both NASA and Nikon. This is the first-ever mirrorless camera that reached Earth’s outer atmosphere or ‘space,’ if you would like it to sound fancier. The astronauts on the ISS will use a mirrorless camera for the first time with the Nikon Z9. Let’s find out more about it.

The Nikon Z9 is custom-made to suit the Space. This includes custom firmware that allows it to withstand the extremities of Space. The Z9 will allow astronauts to click crisp, detailed enhanced images of our planet as well as other celestial objects. They will even use it to document their personal experiences. All this will then be used for scientific research and education.

This isn’t the first time that Nikon has partnered with NASA to provide its cameras for their space missions, this partnership goes a long way. It goes back to 1971 when NASA’s Apollo 15 mission was launched. Nikon cameras were the ones that were used to capture history in the making. And now the Nikon Z9 cameras will take that legacy forward. They succeeded the current Nikon D5 and D6 DSLR cameras that were being used by ISS.
With all this thought behind it, the Nikon Z9 is all set to capture brilliant images from space.
