If you use any of the Apple products including the iPhone, iPad, or MacBook, your device might be at risk. The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a high-risk warning against all Apple devices including the ones mentioned above and more. As per the warning, even Apple TV, Apple Watch, and Vision Pro users are affected by the latest security threat.
In the warning issued on August 2, CERT-In said that multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Apple products that could allow an attacker to access sensitive information, execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions, cause denial of service (DoS), and perform spoofing attacks on the targeted system.
The vulnerabilities reported in Apple products range include
Sensitive information disclosure
Denial of service
Security bypass
Spoofing attacks
What are the devices affected?
The statement issued by CERT-IN says that almost all the Apple devices running older operating systems might have been affected by this threat. These include Apple iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Apple Watches, Apple TV, Apple Vision Pro, and even Apple’s Safari browser. All the devices running on the following software might be at risk:
Apple 105 versions prior to 17.6 and iPadOS versions prior to 17.6
Apple iOS versions prior to 16.7.9 and iPadOS versions prior to 16.7.9
Apple macOS Sonoma versions prior to 14.6
Apple macOS Ventura versions prior to 13.6.8
Apple macOS Monterey versions prior to 12.7.6
Apple watchOS versions prior to 10.6
Apple tvOS versions prior to 17.6
Apple visionOS versions prior to 1.3
Apple Safari versions prior to 17.6
What should you do?
If you have an Apple device that is running any of the mentioned versions of software, you should update it immediately. This can be done by going into the Settings menu of your device and downloading the latest version of the OS available for your device.
Apart from that, you should regularly monitor the latest software updates announced by Apple and communications from security authorities for updates and advisories regarding cybersecurity threats and vulnerabilities.
