Netflix introduces translator testing platform ‘Hermes’ in bid to increase language support, hire subtitlers around the world
The platform is for all those who want to become subtitlers for Netflix’s content.
Streaming service Netflix has introduces a new platform called Hermes, for conducting translator tests around the globe. The platform is for all those who want to become subtitlers for Netflix’s content. Since the streaming service launched in 130 countries last year, it has added subtitle support for more than 20 languages, including languages like Korean, Chinese, Arabic and Polish. The company wants to grow this number in the next few years as it adds more regional content to its platform.
To freelance as a subtitler with Netflix, interested candidates will have to complete an application process on the Hermes website. The test is broken down into five different phases; four multiple choice phases and one subtitle creation phase. It is estimated that candidates will take approximately 90 minutes to complete all five phases.
The test is currently conducted in English, testing subtitling proficiency for languages such as Hindi, Arabic, Finnish, Swedish, Thai, Slovak and many more. Candidates can also choose from specific genres they would like to subtitle in, including Anime, Comedy, Documentary, Feature Films, Original Series and more.
