Net Neutrality: Anonymous India takes down TRAI’s website [Updated]
HIGHLIGHTS

TRAI's website has reportedly gone down. Anonymous India on Twitter has claimed responsibility for taking down the site.

Update: TRAI's website has been restored. The regulator hasn't released any statement on the alleged attack conducted by Anonymous India.

Original story:

Anonymous India has claimed responsibility for taking down TRAI's official website after the regulator published e-mails along with email ids of those sent in support for net neutrality.

It's notable the TRAI had received about over 11 lakh e-mails in support of net neutrality after several campaigns were run on the web. After details were made public, social networking websites were flooded with posts against the regulator. According to netizens, the regulator has made users vulnerable to spams and is breach of privacy. The regulator could have blurred out email ids or put first name.

Responding to TRAI making email IDs of all petitioners public, MP Mr Rajeev Chandrasekhar says, “While there cannot be anonymity in public consultations and TRAI is obliged to reveal all responses, they must not reveal the email ids/contact unless they can prove that petitioners provided no other form of identification, including a name.”

As of this writing, TRAI's website is still down. It's a developing story, we'll keep you updated.
