Must-watch post-apocalyptic films

Updated on 01-May-2020

Post-apocalyptic films truly show us the evil that humanity reverts to when all the chips are down. These films have captivated audiences as they invoke a harsh reality that we can only picture in films. These films awaken something primal and force us to examine our culture and even ourselves as the world comes to an end in these films. Post-apocalyptic films have also weaved in genres like sci-fi, horror and even some excellent action. With that in mind, check out these must-watch post-apocalyptic films.

Snowpiercer

Starring Cris Evans, Snowpiercer is a tale as old as time that examines the struggle between the have and the have-nots being played out in a tight and claustrophobic train that runs the length of the entire planet. Earth has been turned into a frozen wasteland as humanity struggles to adapt to the new world. Thrilling and incredibly thought-provoking, Snowpiercer is a must-watch.

12 Monkeys

As the Earth is turned upside down because of a virus that has already killed most of the world’s population, a convict has to travel back in time to stop the spread of the plague by a group known as the 12 Monkeys. A scathing look at a truly dystopian future, 12 Monkeys is one of Bruce Willis’ best performances and it also helps that he’s supported by an equally amazing Brad Pitt.

Mad Max: Fury Road

Mad Max: Fury Road is one of the most innovative and visceral modern action films. The return of Mad Max does not disappoint as director George Miller understands how to shoot great action and deliver some of the greatest set pieces in action film history. Starring Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron, Mad Max: Fury Road is simply not to be missed. If you’re a fan of incredible set-pieces, then Mad Max: Fury Road is a thrill ride that captures the spirit of old-school action mixed with modern sensibilities.

Children of Men

Children of Men is based on the book of the same name and is one of the most riveting films in a long time. The world has gone into a state of panic as women have become infertile, leading to no new births. As humanity heads towards extinction, the world itself burns. The story follows Clive Owens as he struggles to help and protect a lone woman who happens to be pregnant and could very well save the human race.
