Must watch films about time travel

Time travel is one of the most intriguing sci-fi concepts and if you love pondering over the way your life would pan out if you took a single decision in a different way, then you’ll love watching time travel movies that show how human actions affect the future. While time travel is a really popular concept, it’s fair to say that some movies are filled with clashing storylines and unrealistic character development, which can put you off. With that in mind, we’ve curated a list of some of the top time travel movies that are available on Amazon:

Back to the Future Trilogy

Honestly, can any time travel movie list be complete without this iconic trilogy? Back to the Future chronicles the story of Marty McFly as he uses a Delorean to go back to 1955, and inadvertently ends up hanging out with his teenage parents. It’s up to him to make sure they fall in love and get married, while also making sure that he gets back to 1985 (his own time) quickly. Back to the Future 2, shows Marty McFly and Doc Brown head to the future to watch how Marty’s life unfolds. That’s all we can say without giving the plot away! Finally, the last instalment of the trilogy, Back to the Future 3 takes the dynamic duo to the Wild, Wild West, with Doc Brown getting the happy ending he deserves.

Terminator Anthology

The Terminator Anthology includes The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgement Day, and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines. The first movie is set in a future where machines are wiping out humans from existence. They use android robots called Terminators that look like humans to further their cause until John Connor begins leading a resistance to fight the machines. When human victory becomes inevitable, the machines send back a Terminator to kill John Connor’s mother and alter the future. The next movie, Terminator 2: Judgement Day chronicles the machines’ attempt to kill John Connor as a baby in 1995 with the help of the T-1000, an advanced terminator. However, Sarah Connor ends up giving the machines a taste of their own medicine by also using time travel. Finally, in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, we learn that the invention of these android machines was only delayed, not prevented. The machines try to eliminate all of Connor’s comrades, including his wife, Kate, who then programs an older terminator to go back in time and save them both.

12 Monkeys

Another iconic film, 12 Monkeys is a must-have if you’re building a collection of great time travel movies. This movie is based on the concept of time being a loop, meaning that the film’s ideology is that the future is set in stone. The premise of the movie is that the protagonist, played by Bruce Willis, must go back in time to prevent a virus from being unleashed onto mankind. In the past, he meets a psychiatrist played by Madeline Stowe and a mental patient played by Brad Pitt and learns about the Army of the 12 Monkeys – the group that is supposed to be behind the virus’s release. Can he prevent humanity's bleak future or will he fail? There’s only one way to find out.

Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure
