Movies Anywhere, a new app and web platform, will allow users to merge and access their movie libraries across iTunes, Google Play Movies, Amazon and Vudu. The free to use platform aims to solve the problem of having multiple accounts by combining them all under one roof. Movies Anywhere will also allow users to purchase films across distribution services by helping them compare prices on a unified platform.
Disney had started a similar service back in 2014 called Disney Movies Anywhere, but it only gave access to movies from Disney, including Star Wars and Marvel films. On the other hand, Movies Anywhere will house films over 7,300 titles from multiple studios such as Disney, Fox, Sony Pictures, Universal and Warner Bros.
While the new platform seems like a great idea for those who love building extensive movie libraries, the service is available only in the US as of now. Although, there are plans to roll it out globally as well. In India, users can currently build individual movie libraries on iTunes and Google Play, but Amazon and Vudu’s movie purchasing services are still not available in the country.
The Movies Anywhere app is available on Android and iOS app stores, as well as Apple TV, Chromecast and Amazon Fire TV platforms. The service is a joint venture between Fox, Sony, Universal, Disney and WB.
