Rectangular smartphones are so passé

If you are on the lookout for a phone that truly stands out from the crowd, then forget the iPhones or the Galaxy S7s and take a look at the Runcible. Developed by a startup called Monohm, the Runcible is a device that ditches the run-of-the-mill candybar design for a circular form factor. The device is currently up for pre-order on Indiegogo and is available in two variants. The Runcible Babbage is priced at $399 (approx. Rs. 26,800), and the Runcible Lovelace is priced $499 (approx. Rs. 33,500). Further, users can also choose to pay $5,000 (approx. Rs. 3,35,800) for a one-of-a-kind hand-built Runcible that will be delivered anywhere in the world by the founders of Monohm, Aubrey Anderson and Jason Proctor. The two will also take you out to dinner.

Having a circular smartphone isn’t the only thing owners of the device will be able to flaunt. Monohm says that the Runcible is sustainably made. The Babbage has a back that is made from reclaimed ocean plastic, while the back of the Lovelace is made of wood that that is sustainably harvested.

As for the specifications, the Monohm Runcible features a 2.5-inch round screen with a resolution of 640 x 640 pixels. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 with 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. Further, there is a 7MP rear camera that is located in the middle of the device. The device runs the company’s own BuniOS that is based on Android Lollipop v5.1. While it may not be as powerful as a Samsung Galaxy S7, there is not denying the fact that this phone will make heads turn when you take it out of your pocket.
