Microsoft says Skype can be used for Adhaar-based identity authentication purposes. The company has presented “case scenarios” to government authorities, demonstrating the same. “We have presented various case scenarios on how Skype can be used. We already support iris authentication on Windows 10. Now it depends on them how they want to proceed,” said Bhaskar Pramanik, Microsoft India Chairman. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is reportedly considering embedding authentication technology onto mobile devices. The authority is in talks with device makers for the same.
Microsoft is also collaborating with the Andhra Pradesh government for a pilot program to control high rates of school drop outs. The company is reportedly using data analytics to predict how many students will drop out of school, thereby helping teachers in avoiding the same. According to Microsoft, Punjab has also signed up for the project.
Microsoft has been pushing its efforts in India for the startup and enterprise ecosystem. The company has reiterated, on multiple occasions, that it sees strategic advantages in doing the same. The government tie-ups should also play a role in the same.
